Tips for Sleek, Beautiful Hair for Spring
Celebrity hair extraordinaire Michael Duenas has some great tips for keeping your hair healthy and happy as we transition from winter to spring.
In addition, he shares an easy trick for getting sleek locks like Hayden Panettiere (Michael did the styling for her in this photo), as well as how to add vibrance and volume to your hair.
Michael's Spring Hair Tip:
Make sure not to wash your hair every day, as the warm water and harsh agents in shampoo can dry your hair and scalp. Washing less frequently will help keep the moisture in your hair and retain the essential oils it needs.
Washing your hair every day results in overactive sebaceous glands, and that's why your scalp can get so oily. In spring, your body is adjusting to producing less oils from the harsh dry winter, so help it out by not over-drying.
Michael's "Top Secret" Hair Secrets:
When your hair is feeling lifeless and dull, whip out the jar of peanut butter! Scoop the oil off the top of the peanut butter and apply generously to your hair. If you're not one for peanuts or are just plain allergic, get out that jar of mayonnaise (yes, mayonnaise), apply it to your scalp all the way to the ends and leave it in for an hour or more and rinse off.
If you need a bit of color to add some life and fullness to your hair, go for highlights, not using bleach but with color! You will get shine and less damage than with traditional bleach. If you have fine or flat hair, use a very mild bleach - this will swell and thicken each strand of hair it is applied to, essentially giving you more lift and volume!
